my Kevin Bacon degrees
Posted by Roberta Lipp on September 24, 2006
I’ll just give you a couple.
On Halloween, 1985, I performed at the Beacon Theater as part of the 10th anniversary of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I was a back-up singer for the stage show. I backed up Richard O’Brien, (writer of and actor in the film), and Meat Loaf.
So.
Meat Loaf was in Fight Club with Brad Pitt. Brad Pitt was in Sleepers with Kevin Bacon. done.
Richard O’Brien was in Ever After with Anjelica Huston, who was in the Royal Tenenbaums with Alec Baldwin (narrator). Alec Baldwin was in She’s Having a Baby with Kevin Bacon. fin.
Sure. I could go on. But why? You take it, if you like.

1. The night I flew back to Seattle I saw the Univeristy of Washington Men’s Basketball Coach, Lorenzo Romar.
2. Lorenzo Romar coached New York Knick rookie, Nate Robinson.
3. Spike Lee is famously a New York Knick fan. He sits up front and talks/hangouts with all the Knicks… including Nate Robinson.
4. Spike Lee made a series of famous TV commericals with Michael Jordan.
5. Michael Jordan was in a movie called Space Jam with Danny Devito.
6. Danny Devito was in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest with Jack Nicholson.
7. Jack Nicholson was, of course, in Mars Attacks with Natalie Portman.
And really, Natalie Portman is all that matters.

whatever. you so don’t get how this works.

(How to do this without the Bernadette thing…)
When I was younger, I had a pretty steady mail correspondence with Betty Garrett. (Betty who?)
Betty Garrett was on Laverne and Shirly with Michael McKean.
Michael McKean was in Planes, Trains and Automobiles with KB.
OR…
I was an extra in a Sean Astin film (“Smile”)
Sean was in 50 First Dates with Drew.
Drew was in “Charlie’s Angels” with Demi.
Demi was in A Few Good Men with KB. (And it is, perhaps, her most redeeming performance!)
This was fun.

That’s funny on two counts.
One is, yesterday I encountered an entire blog on Betty Garrett. and I was so impressed with myself for knowing who she was without before I saw her picture.
And secondly,
Richard O’Brien = Ever After
Ever After = Drew
etc.
Albert really doesn’t get how this works. (it has to be six or LESS!!!)

um…EXUSE ME!!!
You might be playing the old, tired, 90’s game, “Six Degrees from Kevin Bacon.”
I am PlAYING the cooler, hip, more modern, “Link up to Natalie Portman in as many steps as you like in anyway you like because what is so great about Kevin Bacon anyway?” game.

Well, you see, my sister performed with Richard O’Brien at the Beacon Theater…
Okay then:
1. I once spoke on the phone with Harlan Ellison
2. Who wrote the Star Trek (original series) episode “City On the Edge of Forever” starring Joan Collins
3. Who was a presenter at the 58th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards along with Kevin Bacon.

Some once told my father he looked like Jack Nicholson.
Jack Nicholson was in Batman with Billy Dee Williams.
Billy Dee Williams was Lando Calrissian is The Empire Strikes Back.
Princess Leia was in The Empire Strikes Back.
Natalie Portman plays Princess Leia in the more recent Star Wars movies.
And then we got married.

Hmmm… the 58th Anuual Primetime Emmys sounds a little exact for me… Deborah just might have taken a trip over to the IMDB vault.
But who says one isn’t allowed a hint in “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon?
(Or in “Link up to Natalie Portman in as Many Steps as you Like in Any Way you Like Because What is so Great About Kevin Bacon Anyway?”)
Ummm…. Betty Garrett link? Please? I can’t believe I might have to wait 24 hours for it.

You mean it’s possible to play Six Degrees without the IMDb?
Fuck no, that’s for people who remember shit.
Betty Garrett was the “comedic girl” who got the “comedic guy” in any musical with a primary romance and a secondary, comedic romance. She got Frank Sinatra in On the Town and Anchors Aweigh (when Sinatra was the funny looking sidekick to Gene Kelly), and was the “friend” in a couple of Esther Williams movies.

But in my own defense I remembered City on the Edge of Forever on my own, and remembered that Joan Collins was in it.
My first effort was John Forsythe. I knew several movies he was in, and he’s connected to Collins through Dynasty (duh). But I couldn’t find anything.

(That Natalie Portman… she so pretty.)

Hey Brad, just so you know.
Sean Astin was also in the Goonies.
with Joe Pantoliano
who played Guido the Killer Pimp in Risky Business
which I just enjoy saying but I’m not using it.
Okay he was also in Eddie and the Cruisers
with Ellen Barkin
who was in Diner with Kevin Bacon.
Deborah said
Okay, here’s another one.
From Harlan Ellison’s Star Trek episode, to
Leonard Nimoy, which gives us Star Trek: The Motion Picture, with
Stephen Collins who was in The Big Picture with
Kevin Bacon.

Deb that was better.
And HAHH!!! McObsessed was a good one.
