1. Grab the nearest book (that is at least 123 pages long).
2. Open to p. 123.
3. Go down to the 5th sentence.
4. Type in the following 3 sentences.
5. Tag five people.

And so, every week, we saw Hercules slaying the Nemean lion, or stealing the girdle of the Amazons (“That’s some girdle, eh, Callie?”), or being thrown gratuitously into snake pits without textual support. But our favorite was the Minotaur…

From Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. I am reading it. Slowly, because that is how I read. I am thrilled to be reading such a rich and delicious book; I am thrilled to have brought reading back into my life.

I tag Albert, Derek, Brad, Chris, Corinna.

The book I am reading. Page 123 starts a new chapter. And after the 5th sentence you are no longer on page 123.

In 1992, a “statement of atmospheric scientists on Greenhouse Warming” that opposed global controls on greenhouse gas emissions drew about one hundred signatures, mostly from members of technical committees on the American Meterological Society. The 1992 “Heidelberg Appeal,” which also expressed skepticism on the urgency of restraining greenhouse gas emissions drew more than 4,000 signatures from scientsits worldwide. The 1996 “Leipzig Declaration on Global Climate Change” emerged from an international conference on the greenhouse controversy, and was signed by more than one hundred scinetists in climate-related fields.

From What the Best College Teachers Do by Ken Bain: “Conversational tones, good intentions, and warm language are all important elements of the craft of good talking, but something else distinjuishes the most effective communicators. The best teachers simply know how to make good explanations. It goes without saying that they are clear and thorough and stimulate learning, but how do they achieve those results?”
